25 Jul How to Pick the Best Contractor on a Cincinnati Home Builder List
Lots of people use online lists to find companies that can help them with major projects and services such as building, cleaning, child care, etc. While looking on a Cincinnati home builder list may be the way you’ve decided to find your builder, it’s important to remember how large this project is. As such, you’ll want to check off a few more boxes before you decide to use a specific builder.
#1: Do Some Extra Research Beyond the Cincinnati Home Builder List.
When you’re looking online for a macaroni and cheese recipe, it’s tempting to simply use the first result you find. But with a project as big as this, you’ll want to do a little more research. Try checking more than one Cincinnati home builder list to see if the builder you’re considering using is mentioned more than once. Also, go to the builder’s main website and learn more about them. You can often learn who you’ll be working with, what their projects in the past have been like, and many other helpful bits of information.
#2: Read Reviews of the Individual Builder.
It can be a little like going down the rabbit hole when you start searching sites like Yelp for information on different builders, but trust us, it’s worth your time. Sure, there will always be a few people who just want to be angry about their experiences and to take it out in their review, but if you consistently see bad reviews, often from people who seem disappointed more than furious, you might want to back away from that particular option.
#3: Look at the Builder’s Past Projects.
Customer Home Resource states that looking at a builder’s past projects is a must. Sometimes, you’ll know someone who used the builder without even realizing it, especially if you have lots of friends in the Queen City. If not, you may have to dig a little deeper. Ask the builder if they have a portfolio they can show you. Some of them will even showcase their portfolios on their websites. If there isn’t anything to go off of, this can be a very bad sign.
#4: Ask a Lot of Questions.
Never be afraid to ask builders questions. After all, they’re going to be working on your labor of love home building project, most likely for several months. You shouldn’t be afraid to talk to them frankly or to find out what you need to know. Start right from the beginning with questions such as these.
- Are you licensed and insured?
- What are the most important aspects of home building in your opinion?
- How long have you been with your current business? Do you have experience before that?
- How many homes have you built in the Cincinnati area?
- Can you provide references, so I can discuss your work with some of your clients?
- When will you tell me what the price of my home will be?
- How many times will I be able to visit the home before it is fully built?
Of course, you’ll probably have a few additional questions of your own, which is great! Make sure you and your builder are on the same page right from the start by asking them.
